OOH: The Advertising Channel Your Customers Can't Skip

Flexcon Billboard Materials

As consumer attention becomes increasingly hard to capture, out-of-home (OOH) offers a compelling solution for brands. Its ability to provide a persistent, uninterrupted canvas and deliver unskippable visibility makes it a powerful advertising channel capable of cutting through the noise.

OOH advertising showing huge growth

Out of Home Advertising Association of America (OAAA) reports the industry generated a record $9.46 billion in revenue, up 3.6% year over year –- and it’s growing. Forecasts project U.S. OOH ad spending will grow to $11 billion by 2027.

The report shows that while digital-out-of-home (DOOH) shows strong growth, traditional OOH remains the foundation of the channel, maintaining a 57% market share in 2025.

Most OOH revenue comes from billboards

Billboards are the industry's powerhouse, accounting for 71.1% of total OOH revenue, with $6.72 billion in 2025. The report also shows that the transit category, including bus wraps and subway posters, was the fastest-growing segment for the second consecutive year, rising 9.2% annually.

Traditional OOH vs Digital OOH

Traditional OOH maintains several advantages over DOOH: they require no power source, connectivity, or technology infrastructure. They avoid rising costs associated with digital screen installations and semiconductor supply challenges. Static boards also provide advertisers with exclusive placement, rather than sharing screen time through rotating ad schedules.

With a record 19 consecutive quarters of industry growth, OOH is still one of the most effective investments for ROI, awareness, and brand building.
