Partnership with MassMEP Provides Training to Workforce

As part of our commitment to lean manufacturing, we’ve partnered with the Massachusetts Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MassMEP) to provide training to our workforce where they gain problem-solving skills, learn how to create standard work, and get an understanding of how metrics and measurements can help sustain continuous improvement. Watch how it all comes together in the video below.

Saving time and energy

For the past few years, in conjunction with Manufacturing Day, MassMEP sends a team to FLEXcon to work with a group of our employees from all areas of the company with the goal of teaching them how to divide a process into tasks that can be completed in tandem by multiple people to accomplish all of the steps almost simultaneously. This process training is yielding efficiency gains in our custom manufacturing practices, which in turn increases throughput and ultimately translates into shorter lead times for you. Since the training last year, Spencer Finishing has been applying MassMEP’s pit crew concept to the change out of rolls on our slitters, and the result has been a 20% decrease in change-over time. Such streamlining efforts enable us to save time and energy, getting more done in less time. It’s good for FLEXcon, good for the environment and good for you.
