Congressman Richard Neal (D-MA) toured the FLEXcon campus in Spencer Massachusetts. Neil McDonough, President and CEO of FLEXcon Company Inc. a leading manufacturer of pressure sensitive polymeric solutions, greeted Congressman Neal and led him on the tour of the company's corporate headquarters and MA production facility.
The visit was to show how New England based companies (E.g., FLEXcon) are linked to the UID initiative and current H.R.5136 National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2011. FLEXcon supplies materials for labeling face stocks of Unique Identification (UID) systems. The Spencer based manufacturer works with the defense industry data management software purveyors and integrators that include the production of labels and plates that meet rigid specifications for field applications. The UID Platform is a federal initiative designed to help the GAO, the Department of Defense, and contractors eliminate waste and improve coordination and analysis of war fighter materials deployed to the field. UID also allows the military material command to track the history of asset repair and replacement, thereby enabling future planning and contractor accountability. This might include locating the nearest part to fix a particular piece of equipment on a tank in the field or determining whether the manufacturing specifications for a particular component need to be modified. Congressman Neal voted for the bill to support our troops and the language regarding the UID initiative. “I am happy to visit another Massachusetts based company that is putting hard working people to work on such important defense related initiatives. I always enjoy meeting with local employers and employees in Western Massachusetts and learning firsthand about the issues that are important to them,” said Congressman Richard E. Neal.
FLEXcon continues to be a critical source of employment for Western Massachusetts. Neil McDonough noted that FLEXcon has not experienced layoffs during the recent economic downturn in part to several strategies implemented in past years. The company has grown this past year and looks to new business opportunities to stimulate the local economy and help the community. "I am pleased to work with Congressman Neal to advocate for federal investment in jobs in Massachusetts.” Said Neil McDonough.
